Routine EEG

Routine EEG — fast answers for common neurological questions.

A typical 20–40 minute scalp recording used to evaluate brain electrical activity, screen for epileptiform abnormalities, and support clinical decision-making.

Purpose

Routine EEG provides a focused snapshot of cortical electrical activity, helping referring providers evaluate seizures, unexplained spells, headaches, syncope, altered mental status, and post-event monitoring needs.

Typical duration

Studies generally take 20–40 minutes, including hyperventilation and photic stimulation when clinically appropriate. The full appointment, including set-up and patient education, usually runs 45–60 minutes.

Who benefits

Adult and pediatric patients referred by neurologists, primary care physicians, hospitals, and specialty practices for suspected seizure activity or non-specific neurological symptoms.

Common conditions evaluated

  • Suspected seizures or epilepsy
  • Loss of consciousness / syncope
  • Chronic headaches
  • Altered mental status
  • Encephalopathy screening
  • Post-stroke or post-TBI follow-up

Reporting

Studies are quality-checked and securely transmitted for interpretation. Professional reports are typically delivered to the referring provider within 5–7 business days, with expedited turnaround available when clinically warranted.
